Pussies in Boots on Bikes was born of many loves: for my cats Thor & Stye; and my collections of tiny wire bicycles, alebrijes (wooden Mexican animals), an assortment of mini toys, and some of my favorite envelope patterns. In my heart and analog soul, I am still eight or nine years young. In a MassArt animation class, I had the assignment of making a piece in the spirit of Chindōgu (珍道具), a word of Japanese origin, that describes the practice of inventing ingenious everyday gadgets that seem to offer ideal solutions to particular challenges. Pussies in Boots on Bikes seemed an obvious way to bring this concept to life.
